About Me

25.6.2010

Hello, I am Little Ms. Mommy FECS. I am the writer of 'Family FECS'FECS stands for:

F - The first initial of my husband's name
E - The first initial of my name
C - Copenhagen, where my husband comes from
S - Singapore, where I come from

I am a Singaporean Chinese married to a wonderful man (I will call him 'Mr. FECS' or 'Daddy FECS' in this blog), who is Danish and whose sterling ethical standard and steadfast integrity spur me on to be a better person. I moved to Denmark since 2001. We have a son, I will call him 'J' or 'Our Little FECS' in this blog, who is soon turning 1.5 years old. He is thus Danish-Singaporean-Chinese in heritage.

I am a Bible-believing Christian. I am a full-time part-time (with effect from 15 Oct 2013) full time (with effect from 18 Sep 2017)  part-time (with effect from 1 Jun 2019) working mom. (I have finally taken the courage to quit my job and my last day of work was on 7 August 2020. I became a SAHM mom on 8 August 2020.)

I have a Master in Applied Economics & Finance from the Copenhagen Business School (CBS). I did my Master thesis in the field of Advanced Econometrics (Statistics) on "The Role of Financial Markets on Long-Run Economic Growth: An Empirical Analysis of Denmark" with the University of Copenhagen and I am now embarking on a new, exciting and challenging journey of acquiring a life-long Ph.D. in cross-cultural homemaking. Thus, in a nutshell, this blog is a journal of my learnings from this life-long journey that I have dedicated myself to - reflections on Montessori, multilingualism, meals, motherhood, marriage, making memories and more...

As a full-time part-time working mom, my interests and values are thus reflected in my blog – parenting and child development, inculcating self-control and good eating habits - both for ourselves and our children, juggling work, family, friends, personal relationship with God, and practical tips on saving time, etc.

I am a very determined, driven, goal and results-oriented person. I am very efficient, organized and systematic. When I set my heart on achieving something, I can work day and night to bring it to fruition, which on a minus side, can make me a workaholic. But I have been much better at bringing it in check with God's help, so as to achieve greater balance in life. When I start something, it gives me great satisfaction to complete it. Thus, I love projects. I am a good planner and a good implementer, and I usually plan way ahead into the future, which is also my biggest weakness for being super-kiasu - a Singaporean trait best translated to "being afraid to lose". I sometimes run too fast and unknowingly leave others behind. I am aware that this can put people off. I hope people will accept me as I am. I am a reflective person, and on a quarterly or if not, half-yearly basis, I will spend time reviewing and reflecting back on my plans. I am said to be very analytical and I enjoy doing research. And I also love to share my research findings and new ideas, as you can see, will likely to be reflected in this blog. I have a weakness for being a perfectionist and striving for a very high standard in everything I do, which I sometimes unknowingly impose on others.

Like most, my greatest goal in life is to lead a fulfilled life. That I believe comes in leading a simple life, having a work-life balance. It means enjoying the simple joys such as time with family, time to make a home-cooked meal. I also believe that no life can be fulfilled without God, and though I may not always succeed, I aim to put God first in everything. Who I am and what I am today... I would not have been here without God. I have been very blessed to have a wonderful family, which I treasure every bit... which I would not trade for anything else in the world...

Our greatest challenge right now, which is also my number one prayer, hope and goal, is to be wise parents for our children. It is our greatest wish that he may grow up to be a man after God's heart, reflecting Joshua 1:5-9.

"...As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.... Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." - Joshua 1:5-9

I believe that the best parenting can only be achieved, if the husband and wife put their marriage first, which means putting each other first. But as the years go by, we can sometimes take each other for granted. Thus, it is also my prayer that my Mr. FECS and I will continue to grow in love together... in this cross-cultural marriage.

My deepest desire is that we can truly serve God together as a family. I look forward to the day, when we as a family reach out to other resource-challenged families, to have family devotion studying the Bible together and applying it to our lives, and singing praises to God together as a family. We have not achieved that yet. This is my prayer request.
