Makes approx. 10-12 pieces
Ingredients:
1. 200g flour
2. 25g Olands wholewheat flour or Graham flour (10% of total flour weight of 225g)
3. 3 eggs approx. 150g total
4. 350g skimmed fresh milk (Total liquid incl. eggs is 500g)
5. 1/2 tsp vanilla powder
6. 2 tsp baking powder
7. 2 TBS sugar
8. A dash of salt (optional)
9. 100g olive oil (or melted butter if you really can't do without butter, or half butter half olive oil :-))
Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients in a hand mixer or whisk.
2. Add to the waffler maker, following the instructions of your waffler maker. For mine:
3. Brush the plates top and bottom with a bit of oil (I use olive oil).
4. With the waffle machine lid closed, turn on the waffler maker, there will be both red light and green light.
5. Once the green light is gone, the waffle maker is warm enough.
6. Use a spoon and add the batter into the plate (1 tablespoon of batter for each little heart waffle for mine), be careful that it doesn't overflow.
7. Close the waffle maker and the green light will turn on.
8. When the green light disappears, the waffle is done.
9. Turn over the waffle (optional) and close the waffle maker. The green light will turn on again.
10. When the green light disappears, the waffle is done :-)
11. Remove the waffle into a plate with a wooden spatula. Enjoy with some icing, strawberry jam, a scoop of ice-cream or simply eat it on its own :-)
Additional Information:
On Thursday, Baby FECS was having waffles from the school's Høstmarked (Harvest Day) and wanted to have more at home. It was a long time since we used our waffle maker. Today is Sunday, and we have a bit more time. We made these waffles today.
I followed the recipe and used 125g of melted butter, but found that it was too much as the oil came out and flow out of the plate. Thus, I reduced the melted butter to 100g. Daddy FECS and Baby FECS loved these waffles. You can eat the waffles with this easy homemade strawberry ice-cream.
The amount of sugar in the original recipe wasn't sweet enough, I have increased the sugar to 2-3 tablespoon instead of 1 tablespoon. Using butter instead of olive oil will make the waffles more crispy, but less healthy. So play with the proportion of using butter or olive oil for the trade off between taste and healthiness.
Sometimes I increased the wholewheat flour to 15% of total flour weight i.e. 35g. I tried using 20% but the waffles weren't as tasty.
Below is the original recipe from Valdemarsro:
1. 225g flour
2. 1 egg
3. 250ml water
4. 200ml skimmed fresh milk
5. 1/4 tsp vanilla powder
6. 2 tsp baking powder
7. 1 TBS sugar
8. A dash of salt
9. 125g melted butter
Update 20 October 2024:
Today I used Olands wholewheat flour instead of Graham flour and it turned out superb. I used 35g wholewheat flour (15.5% of total flour weight) and it turned out great.
