Avocado Oatmeal Milkshake

Makes 2 glasses

Ingredients:
1. 1 ripe avocado
2. 2 TBS raw oats (optional) (Danish: havregryn)
3. 1 cup skimmed milk (250ml) (Danish: Skummetmælk)
4. 1 tsp honey (or 1/2 a pear as sweetener)

Directions:
1. Add all the ingredients together, fill the cup up with milk and blend well.
2. Serve

Tips:
1. You can add a handful of goji berries or nuts.

Additional Information:
This is currently J's favorite smoothie - he requested for it a few times a week, especially during our try-to-be weekly Sunday Family Meeting Night. Actually he concorted it. He suggested to add oatmeal. I tasted it, and it tasted surprisingly delicious. Oatmeal and avocado go well together. J likes it with goji berries. I prefer it without. You do not have to add oats, it is just an extra.

For convenience, efficiency and ease of washing up, I use mini baby blender, that can be purchased from Korea, Japan or Singapore. But you can use any blender you have, of course.

Get ready all ingredients and blender

Here are the main ingredients

Add 1 avocado...

2 TBS oats

1 tsp honey or as desired

Fill up the cup with milk
Blend in mini baby blender for a few seconds
It's done - look how creamy it is :-), and it is cream of the healthy type :-)

Pour into 2 glasses
Ready to serve :-)

Chestnut Picking

It is the season of chestnuts... and the best time to pick them in the forest and along the road, as they are fresh and clean all over the place...

Location: Dyrehaven, the stretch between Fortunen and the Driveway entrance to the Emitageslot

But what to do with the chestnuts that we picked?

I found some ideas here:

I saw this idea at a cafe, and realized that J also noticed the same idea, cos' he suggested to put the chestnuts into transparent vase and

... arranged it by himself at the window panel

Slumber Party in the Kitchen

I mentioned in my earlier post that I read somewhere that years down the road, when the children have all moved out, it would be the memories of the unique things that you do together that would bring the family together (sorry for repeating). It doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive, but simple and stress-free.

Weekend is here... we decided to do something crazy again. So we decided to pull our comforters downstairs to sleep in the kitchen instead. J was very thrilled, but I was even more thrilled than him. It gave me an excuse to be to be a child again :-P

Our attempt of star-gazing this weekend did not materialize - the telescope didn't quite work, plus Daddy chickened out of venturing into the "cold" to stare at the stars at the last minute. We had a great time cycling in the forest in the afternoon and picking up chestnuts. Thus, the evening and night started out too late. J was very tired, so we didn't do much activities while sleeping in the kitchen, except to read a story.

This is something that J will remember for life. We intend to repeat it.

Having tried sleeping in the washroom, closet, playroom and kitchen, we are soon running out of ideas, but we will definitely repeat this, and hopefully we get to start the evening earlier next time.

You may also want to check out some other crazy ideas such as meals under the table and teatime with your child in my earlier post.

Morning has broken...

Updates: 19 March 2016

J requested to sleep in the kitchen for our cozy Family Fun Night. We said that we need to clean it first. This turned out to be a very good incentive for him to mop the kitchen floor and dry it :-)

How To Deal with Bully at the Kindergarten?

In the kindergarten, it is common to encounter children making fun of one another. Daddy taught J how to deal with such situation. If your child does not like what others say to him, here are a few ideas you can teach him to say:

1. Say, "Rend & hop" (Danish: Rap og hop)

Teach your child to say with a smile, "Rap og hop," and make hopping action to accompany it. According to J, do this first. Usually the other kid who said the mean thing would hop and hop away. That was what happened, when J said it to his friends.

2. Say, "That one Says, is one himself" (Danish: Det man siger, er man selv)

In Danish, there is a saying that you can teach your child to say with a smile, "Det man siger, er man selv, fordi det står i Aktuelt." In English, it means "What one says, is one himself or herself. Usually the guilty child will stop saying the annoying stuff after this.

J has composed a melody to go along with it (with my help with accompaniment).

3. Say, "Mirror" (Danish: Spejl)

If the first two don't work, teach your child to say with a smile, "Mirror," and then walk away. Don't linger with it. It is end here. Full stop.

In Danish, the child says, "Spejl."

Additional Information:

When J encountered teasing at the kindergarten some time ago, I got upset and a little hurt on his behalf. I wanted soooo much to shield him from all the unpleasant encounters in life. On hindsight, I have learned to change my paradigm. I have learned to see it as a good opportunity for him to grow and become stronger, which will help him to face whatever that life may throw at us.

There is a purpose for our child to encounter the good and the not-so-good.

It gives us a chance to share his pain, to find ways to teach him how to deal with difficult people (little people in his case) with confidence and with grace.

And yesterday, a friend of mine told me that her daughter has similar encounters at the kindergarten. Because of our experience, we are able to share with her.

It has also inspired J to compose a song (with help with accompaniment form me) to share with other kids facing similar situation.

Another lesson we learned is that everything will come to past. Since then, J has not longer encountered any teasing. And in fact he has become one of the most popular boys in this class - this of course, will also come to pass.

So God has worked all things out for good (Romans 8:28). In all challenges in life, God has a greater purpose for allowing us to go through it. We have to remember that.
