Teaching Fractions

According to http://voices.yahoo.com/fun-ways-teach-math-children-3386930.html?cat=25, many problems concerning adding and subtracting fractions come from not understanding how to build equivalent fractions. Have the child use the Lego's to build equivalent "stacks." For example, build one stack of Lego's with 1 red (numerator) and 3 yellow (denominator) blocks. Have the child build an equivalent stack with a yellow (denominator) of 9 blocks. This technique can also be used when teaching ratios and proportions.
