Easy Danish Curry Meatballs (Boller i Karry)


Serves 4 

Ingredients:

Meatballs:
1. 500g minced pork
2. 1 egg
3. 1 onion diced
4. 50ml flour - I use white whole wheat flour
5. 100ml skimmed fresh milk
6. 1 tsp salt
7. Dash of pepper

Sauce:
1. 2 TBS butter or cooking oil
2. 3 tsp curry powder
3. 3 TBS flour - I use white whole wheat flour
4. 200 ml skimmed fresh milk
5. 400 ml water
6. 1 tsp salt
7. Dash of pepper

Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, add 500g minced meat, egg, 50ml flour, 100ml skimmed fresh milk, 1 teaspoon salt and pepper.

2. Blend well with a hand mixer and set aside for 30 minutes in the fridge.

3. In a pot, add 2 tablespoons butter or cooking oil and heat it up.

4. Under medium heat (no. 5.5 on my stove out of 9), add 3 teaspoons of curry powder, stir and mix well.

5. Add 3 tablespoons of white whole wheat flour, stir and mix well.

6. Add 200 ml of milk and 400 ml of water, salt and pepper, stir and mix well, boil until you achieved the desired consistency.

7. Form meatballs into shape using an ice-cream scope and add it into the pot.

8. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes under low fire (no. 2.5 on my stove) or until cooked.

9. Serve with brown rice :-)

Additional Information:

This is a classic Danish dish that my family loves. I follow the easy recipe from Børnevaisen which is very tasty. I sometimes add 1 potato cut into bite-size and long beans and simmer them together with the meatballs until cooked.

You can substitute the flour in the meatballs with rolled oats too.

Add French beans and potatoes (optional)

Cover and simmer for 20 minutes under low fire (no. 2.5 on my stove) or until cooked.
