Recipe from Just One Cookbook
Serves 3
Ingredients:
1. 3 beef rib eye steaks
2. ½ tsp. corn starch (optional)
3. 1 tsp. water (optional)
4. ½ Tbsp. roasted sesame seeds (optional)
5. 1 stalk spring onion chopped
6. 1 TBS cooking oil
Teriyaki Sauce:
1. 4 TBS soya sauce
2. 4 TBS sake
3. 4 TBS mirin
4. 8 TBS water
5. 2 inch ginger chopped and pressed or blended
6. 1/2 onion chopped and pressed or blended
7. 1 tsp. sugar
Directions:
1. Mix well all the the ingredients for Teriyaki Sauce.
2. Marinade beef steaks with 4 TBS of the Teriyaki sauce in a zip-lock bag, and keep in the fridge for 30 minutes.
3. In a separate bowl, add corn starch with water and mix well for thickening sauce.
4. In a sauce pan, bring Teriyaki sauce to boil for 5 minutes to evaporate the alcohol in the sake.
5. Stir in the corn starch mixture to the sauce to thicken the sauce. Set aside.
6. Heat oil in pan on medium high heat, drain steaks from marinade and add into the pan. Fry for 2 minutes.
7. Turn over and fry for 1.5 minutes for medium-rare done-ness.
8. Pour 2 TBS Teriyaki Sauce over each steak and let it bubble a little.
9. Remove the steaks from the pan to a plate before the sauce starts to burn.
10. Let the steaks rest to allow succulent juices to distribute for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
11. Sprinkle a little bit of roasted sesame seeds and spring onion on top of the steak.
12. Serve with the leftover Teriyaki Sauce on the side for extra drizzle.
Additional Information:
Yes, you guessed it. Tonight we had Teriyaki again for dinner, this time around, Teriyaki beef steaks. It tasted very good. Daddy FECS like beef steaks. J didn't like it as much. He prefers Teriyaki chicken or salmon.
